A Texas realtor named his new model home project after his four-year-old son.
Terrence Murphy Sr. is a serial entrepreneur and the owner of Murphy Signature Homes (MSH), a luxury home building company and one of the twenty businesses he owns under his Terrence Murphy Companies brand. The former NFL player retired from the sport and began looking to pursue other passions; he’s been in the real estate game for 15 years now. Murphy started off as a limited investment partner in syndication deals before he and his wife started investing and developing their own real estate company two years later. Now, the couple builds luxury homes ranging from $500k – $5M and their real estate brokerage team recently hit $1B total in sales in less than 9 years.

Murphy personally designs each home design along with his architect, naming each of his MSH designs after a family member; he has one for his wife Erica, his children Teryn and Tatiana, and even his late mother Brenda, who passed away in 2018. The tradition began when he first started in the business, hoping to build a legacy for his children to follow.
“I originally got the idea [after] I took my kids to the undeveloped land and we prayed over the vision God gave me. They were there with me and saw the vision well before any dirt was moved. It was about legacy and teaching them that anything is possible with hard work, perseverance and faith,” Murphy told Because Of Them We Can.
Recently, he had the opportunity to develop a new neighborhood inside a golf course community called Traditions in Bryan, Texas. The community is a premier Golden Bear designed golf course neighborhood originally designed by golf pioneer Jack Nicklaus. When thinking of what he would call his new model home design, he decided on “The Junior,” named for his four-year-old son, Terrence Jr. Murphy took to social media to share the momentous occasion.
“This is about more than building a company, it’s about leaving a legacy and to inspire others. When I was designing our modern and contemporary series for [Murphy Signature Homes]…Junior kept asking why we didn’t have a plan named after him because we had the Erica plan, the Brenda, the Teryn, and the Tatiana. Now we do and we were in design phase for our newest one story plan for our modern-contemporary series, the Junior. We pre-sold this design and Jr. was able to come to closing with me to sign the paperwork for MSH’s first project named after him…Never in my wildest dreams did I think that my four-year-old would be signing paperwork with me at closing on his first project…Thank you Father,” Murphy wrote.
It was his young son’s persistence in getting a model named after him that made him follow through. Murphy hopes that all of his children understand that they can do anything they put their mind to.
“He kept asking and following up every time we would drive by on why he didn’t have his own design yet. He learned the lesson that closed mouths don’t eat and also the lesson of ownership and the pride of putting his name on something…He was able to be there at the title company to close and sign the paperwork with me. I want him to get comfortable with that experience because he will be at the title companies a lot during his professional career. For my personal legacy…most likely my son will probably lead or run this construction company and I don’t want my kids to ever feel like they cannot do something, whatever they put their hearts and minds to, it’s possible,” Murphy said.
The real estate maverick is currently expanding his brokerage team throughout the country, and is looking for people to join his team. He has also started a new podcast to help others looking to get into real estate entitled “The Real Estate Entrepreneur with Terrence Murphy,” available wherever podcasts are streamed. His hope is to give out free gems and open the door for others to follow in his footsteps. His advice for anyone is to never stop chasing their dreams.
“Keep your head up, keep dreaming, keep chasing and never stop believing in whatever dreams God put inside of you. Whoever would have thought I would be building and designing 7,000-9,000 sq ft. modern luxury homes. Find the right people that inspire you, watch them, learn from them and then take action and go get it!,” said Murphy.
