Trinity Rodman Re-Signs with Washington Spirit on Record-Breaking Contract

Trinity Rodman, the dynamic forward for both the Washington Spirit and the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT), has agreed to a new three-year contract extension with the Spirit that will reportedly pay her more than $2 million per year — making her the highest-paid player in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League.
The deal, which keeps Rodman with the Spirit through at least 2028, ended months of speculation about her future and represents a significant milestone in professional women’s soccer — both in financial terms and as a sign of the league’s evolving competitiveness.
A Landmark Moment for Women’s Soccer
Rodman’s record-setting contract pushes the boundaries of compensation in the NWSL and for female athletes globally. According to reports, her new deal includes bonuses and salary that exceed $2 million annually, surpassing previous salary records and overtaking top players in women’s soccer abroad.
The new contract was made possible, in part, by recent changes to league rules that allow teams to spend beyond traditional salary caps on elite players, underscoring both Rodman’s elite status and the growing business landscape of women’s professional sports.
Rodman’s Rise to Stardom
Drafted by the Washington Spirit in 2021, Rodman quickly made an impact — helping lead the team to its first NWSL title and earning Rookie of the Year honors early in her career. She has also become a fixture of the USWNT, contributing goals and showcasing electrifying play on the international stage.
Her new contract not only reflects her on-field success but also her marketability and influence in promoting women’s sports. Staying in the NWSL — despite reported interest from European clubs — has helped solidify the league’s ability to keep top domestic talent.
