Teresa Busby
Grief changes everything—but it doesn’t have to end the story.
In a deeply moving episode of The Stardom101 Magazine Podcast, we sit down with author and social work professional Teresa Busby, whose life was forever altered after the tragic loss of her seven-year-old son. Through faith, resilience, and storytelling, Teresa has transformed pain into purpose, offering hope to others navigating unimaginable loss.
Her latest book, A Shadow of a Mother: Broken Pieces, is not just a memoir—it is a lifeline for grieving parents and anyone struggling to heal from trauma.
A Mother’s Story That Changed Everything
Teresa Busby is an author from Sumner, Mississippi, now residing in Southaven, Mississippi. A devoted mother of three, Teresa’s world shifted on July 1, 2008, when her young son was killed in a tragic train accident. The incident, caused by the impaired actions of another individual, left Teresa facing grief that no parent should ever have to endure.
As a single mother, she was forced to grieve while continuing to show up for her daughters—then and now teenagers—balancing heartbreak with responsibility.
On the podcast, Teresa speaks candidly about the emotional toll of that loss and how grief reshaped her identity, her faith, and her outlook on life.
Inside A Shadow of a Mother: Broken Pieces
Published on November 22, 2025, A Shadow of a Mother: Broken Pieces is Teresa’s most personal work to date. In the book, she courageously addresses:
The raw reality of losing a child
Depression, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts
The non-linear process of healing
Learning how to live while carrying loss
Rather than offering surface-level inspiration, Teresa chose honesty—believing that transparency creates space for real healing.
“I wanted readers to know they’re not broken for feeling broken.”
Her book serves as a companion for those grieving in silence, reminding them they are not alone.
Faith as an Anchor Through the Storm
Throughout the episode, Teresa shares how her faith in God became her greatest ally during her darkest moments. She doesn’t frame faith as an instant solution, but as a steady presence—something she leaned on daily when strength felt impossible.
Her story resonates deeply with listeners navigating grief, reminding them that survival can begin with simply taking the next breath.
Social Work, Education, and Purpose
In addition to her work as an author, Teresa is deeply rooted in social work. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Mississippi Valley State University and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, with an expected completion date of May 2026.
Her professional training informs her compassionate approach to grief, healing, and advocacy—bridging education with lived experience.
From Will I Ever Get Married to What’s Next
Before her latest release, Teresa published her first book, Will I Ever Get Married, which explores love, relationships, and faith from a woman’s perspective.
Looking ahead, she is excited about developing children’s book projects that gently address:
Grief and loss
Depression and emotional wellness
Bullying
Suicidal feelings (handled in age-appropriate, safe ways)
These upcoming projects reflect her commitment to helping children and families process difficult emotions early and safely.
