Master P Sets Sights on Arizona State Head Coaching Position
Hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur Master P is making headlines once again — this time in the sports world. The No Limit Records founder has expressed strong interest in becoming the next head coach for Arizona State Sun Devils men’s basketball.
Currently serving as President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans, Master P has already made a noticeable impact by helping turn around a struggling program. Under his leadership, the team improved from a 4–27 record to a more competitive 15–18 season — showcasing his ability to lead and rebuild.
From Music Mogul to Basketball Leader
While widely known for his success in music and business, Master P has long-standing ties to basketball. He previously played at a competitive level and has coached elite AAU talent, including future NBA stars like DeMar DeRozan and Brandon Jennings.
His coaching philosophy goes beyond the game — focusing heavily on financial literacy, personal development, and preparing athletes for life beyond sports. With the rise of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals, Master P emphasizes teaching young athletes how to manage wealth and build generational success.
A Non-Traditional Candidate With Big Vision
Master P acknowledges he may not fit the traditional mold of a college basketball coach, but he believes his real-world experience, mentorship mindset, and entrepreneurial approach set him apart.
He has openly stated that with the resources of a major program like Arizona State, he could elevate performance and create a winning culture. His vision includes not just developing athletes on the court, but also equipping them with tools for long-term success.
Master P’s potential move into a major NCAA coaching role reflects a larger shift in sports — where leadership, branding, and business acumen are becoming just as valuable as traditional coaching experience.
If selected, he could redefine what it means to be a college coach, blending culture, mentorship, and entrepreneurship into a new era of athlete development.
