“If you look between God and gangster rap, you’ll find me dancing in the clouds”
Birmingham, Alabama – This is how the 30-plus year-old, Birmingham native describes her experience with the Hip Hop culture. As a historian, philanthropist and artist YungRod 2G is currently on a quest to restore mystic to her hometown (Birmingham, AL), known as the Magic City. Born in January of 1987, her Hip Hop influences range from A Tribe Called Quest to Three6 Mafia and any form of Hip Hop in between. Growing up in a “Don Cornelius, Soul Train” household, most gangster rap of the early to mid 90’s was taboo to this young creative. Recalling her first time hearing role model Jay-Z, Rod (also know n as 2G by her peers) knew that her life with Hip Hop had only begun. She also derives musical influence from greats such as Rick James, Prince, Whitney Huston and classic rock such as Fleetwood Mack or War. Since 2012 she has been independently working as a professional artist, performing throughout Birmingham, AL, and neighboring major cities; taking each stage like a tornado. Her first hit, Pimps with No Whips is a glimpse into the eclectic lifestyle she has led. At the age of 17, 2G ventured out into the world with a vision of being heard and representing her community in a positive light. Today she continues to be a leader in the African American and Urban community. She also inspires the youth through her music as well as Ambitionz: Fine Arts and Music, the nonprofit organization she founded with the mission of mentoring and providing a diverse arts culture to the youth.
